Rules and Procedures for Referees

The following are the rules and procedures unique to the Needham Tournament.  Please review this document as many times as necessary to commit the information to memory.  Please do not make any errors with regard to these procedures!  Please READ all of the listed points!!

  1. All games MUST start and end ON TIME

  2. If you find that a game ahead of you is running late, do the coin toss ahead of time.

  3. Please don't give long speeches to the players at the coin toss.  This is bad for you and confuses them!  Do the coin toss and get going.  Time is of the essence.

  4. Do not ask the keepers if they are ready.  If a keeper is in the area of his/her goal....he/she is READY!

  5. All games MUST start and end ON TIME

  6. All games are RUNNING TIME!!  Do not stop your watch for any reason, even an ambulance.  The clock must continue running to the end of the current half and the 2nd half must start on time.  The clock continues to run regardless of whether or not an injury has cleared the field.

  7. There is NO added time. 
    We do not add time in any game.      
    Time shall not be added in any match.

  8. 5 minutes is allowed for 1/2 time.  Get the players back on the field after 4 min so that you start ON TIME

  9. ALL GAMES MUST START AND END ON TIME

  10. Both teams must be present at the scheduled time.  If they aren't, inform tournament staff.

  11. In the event of two teams having a color conflict, the HOME team must change.

  12. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SCORES, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SCORES, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SCORES!!!!!  No excuse for reversed scores, missing scores, incorrect scores, or any kind of mistake involving scores.  We have three officials at most games....please get this right!

  13. Be sure to turn in your pay sheet at the end of your stay with the tournament.  DO NOT give it to a field marshall.  Give it directly to a member of the referee committee.

  14. Please make sure you return your game card at the end of EACH and EVERY game.  Do not forget and take it home with you.  You'll only have to bring it back.

  15. ALL GAMES MUST START AND END ON TIME!

  16. On the SUNDAY of the tournament, referees WILL run a reverse diagonal to save the GRASS FIELDS from wear.  Assessors will take note.  THIS IS A REQUIREMENT!
